My approach to behaviour support is highly collaborative. I believe positive change happens when everyone works together, remains consistent and is open to making adjustments. Most importantly, any changes should reflect what the participant wants and suit their individual needs. I believe education is key and that staying open to learning is important in our industry.
When working with each participant, I am curious about their experiences and want to learn what makes them unique. I am always continuing to learn myself because I do not want to become stuck in one way of thinking. I believe having an open mind helps me provide the best support possible. As I have a background in Psychology a lot of strategies I use are evidence-based and look at skill building strategies. I am always open to going outside of the box if a participant does not like what we are doing as being person-centred is the most important part of this work.
